Neighbor. Advocate. Organizer. Rooted in Faith, Moved by Justice

A lifelong resident of Prince George’s County, Leslye Dwight has been a member of the Hollaway Estates community for nearly 20 years. She is a mother, community advocate, and preacher of the gospel.

Meet Leslye

Leslye is committed to building stronger, more just communities from the ground up.

With deep roots in faith and a heart for people, Leslye has spent several decades working at the intersection of ministry, public service, and social impact. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Bowie State University, a Master of Science in Human Services Management from McDaniel College, and a Master of Divinity (Magna Cum Laude) from Payne Theological Seminary. She is currently nearing completion of her Doctor of Ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary.

Whether she’s organizing voter outreach, leading community-based events, or helping churches strengthen their justice witness, Leslye shows up with both compassion and clarity---fueled by education, lived experience, and unwavering hope.

As the Minister of Social Justice at Community of Hope AME Church, Leslye’s work centers on empowering people and systems to reflect dignity, equity, and purpose. Her ministry and public work are grounded in one belief: change begins when we show up for each other, for our families, and for our neighbors.

Leslye is raising her daughter with the same values that guide her work—faith, justice, joy and a deep love for community.

Community Collaboration in Action

Building Safer, Stronger, Communities Together

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Leslye convened a collaborative effort between residents of Hollaway Estates and Marlton to address urgent safety concerns. Working alongside legislators, community police officers, small businesses, and civic leaders, the effort created space for real-time dialogue and joint- problem solving.

Today she is actively working to expand that spirit of collaboration---bringing together more of the community so that voices are heard, needs are named, and solutions reflect the people they’re meant to serve.

Listening in Love

Leslye believes that meaningful solutions begin with listening—whether it’s a casual conversation with a neighbor across the street or a structured community dialogue with parents, faith leaders, and local residents. The goal is always the same: to amplify community concerns in ways that shape and inform priorities. These gatherings are more than forums—they are a commitment to relationship-building and responsive leadership.

Showing Up Where It Counts

From organizing community walks to protesting with our seniors so that decision-makers see them, Leslye remains grounded in presence—not just policy. Her belief is simple: leadership begins by showing up, listening, and serving.

Building Brighter Futures Together

The B.O.O.S.T tutoring program, founded by Leslye, was established as a collaborative with local schools, the faith and nonprofit communities, and the University of Maryland College Park to improve academic outcomes and school attendance through community-rooted partnerships.
