Leslye Dwight
Democrat for Prince George’s County Council- District 9
Why I’m Running
Prince George’s County is at a crossroads. Families are stretched thin. Young people are wondering if opportunity exists for them here. Seniors are questioning whether they’ll be able to stay in the homes and communities they built. Too often, government talks at us instead of with us.
I’m not running to make promises that sound good—I’m running to make government work for you, right here in District 9. I can say that with certainty because I’ve been in the rooms where decisions are made. I’ve written and defended the budgets. I’ve fought for the dollars that shape our schools, protect our neighborhoods, and keep services alive for families and elders. I know how to turn visions into real change.
I also know what it feels like when government doesn’t show up—because I’ve lived it. I’ve walked with neighbors through it, cutting through red tape, pushing to get folks the help they deserve, and carrying voices into places where they’d otherwise be ignored.
You deserve more.
You deserve a county where your talent has a future right here at home.
You deserve neighborhoods where raising children doesn’t come with fear about affordability.
You deserve systems that support you as you care for both your kids and your parents.
You deserve to age with dignity, security, and respect for the foundation you laid.
That’s why I’m running. District 9 deserves leadership that doesn’t just hold office—but holds the community first.
I’ve done the work. I’ve delivered results. I am ready—right now—to legislate with accountability, serve with transparency, and fight for change you can see and feel in your everyday life.
We need someone who already knows how to work government for the people.
I’m built for this—because I was built by this community.
Built For This
Lifelong Resident
I’m a lifelong resident of Prince George’s County, shaped by its schools, its spirit, and its sense of community. A proud graduate of High Point High School, I know what it means to grow up in a place full of promise—and I’m committed to helping community thrive.
Rooted in Education
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Bowie State University, a Master of Science in Human Services Management from McDaniel College, and a Master of Divinity from Payne Theological Seminary. I’m currently completing my Doctor of Ministry at Wesley Theological Seminary.
Service is in my blood
I was raised in a home where public service wasn’t just a job—it was a calling. My father served as an Army Reservist, who served in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. My mother, a marine biologist spent nearly 40 years at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Their dedication shaped my commitment to integrity, community, and impact.
Leadership & Impact
With over 20 years of combined experience in Prince George’s County government, nonprofit, and faith-based leadership, I’ve secured millions in funding for youth, education, and public safety initiatives. I’ve worked to close the academic achievement gap, strengthen local programs, and ensure fiscal responsibility at every level.
Ministry that moves
I am ordained clergy in the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church and serve as Minister of Social Justice at Community of Hope AME Church under the leadership of Rev. Tony Lee. My ministry focuses on faith in action—standing with those who are unheard, underserved, and ready to rise.
Ready to Serve…
As a preacher, I offer presence.
As a strategist, I deliver results.
As a neighbor, I listen—because everyone deserves a response and a resolution to the challenges they face.
